Cowboy Press is on a brief pause from accepting new print orders! Thanks for understanding 😘

  • What can you make with a risograph?

Art prints! Zines! Brochures! Fliers! Valentines! Cards! Invitations! Flash sheets! Cootie catchers! Calendars! Menus! Paper airplanes! and so so so much more.

Riso printing is a super fun, unique way to create colorful printed matter in high quantities! The process uses a stencil duplicator, which some people say reminds them of a cross between a copy machine and screen printing. It uses vegetable based inks that are slightly transparent when layered on top of each other, creating endless beautiful, eco-friendly color combinations!

This method of printing is charmingly imperfect. You can expect each print to be slightly unique, with the occasional misregistered layer, interesting color overlays and even tire tracks! We choose to accept these imperfections with love and know that nothing wonderful is without it’s flaws.

  • Cowboy Press is a risograph micro-press in Richmond, VA.

We offer riso printing, trimming, and a few binding options including coil binding, perfect binding, stapling and folding.

    We’ve got a couple machines on our hands — RZ390, EZ221, EZ220

Our RZ390 can print up to 11x17” (Tabloid) with the following colors:

fluorescent pink, fluorescent orange, sunflower, cornflower, teal, light lime, violet, burgundy, hunter green, and black.

Our EZ221/220 machines can print up to 8.5x14” (Legal) with the following colors:

aqua, red, blue, yellow, flat gold, light grey, fluorescent pink, and black

You’re welcome to swap between machines to use different colors but keep in mind the size constraints, and also that misregistration is highly likely to occur when printing between multiple machines.

Riso printing is an imperfect process.

Irregularities in coverage, registration, and color are natural! These inks are oil based, and they never fully dry, kind of like a newspaper. Watch your fingers!

We cherish riso for being an inexact process — the misregistration, tire marks, and unique textures are part of the charm.
